ATL: 1 Research/Media Literacy: Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats.

Okay... I have my B-Roll and my SOT... What next?

Now as you begin to put together your B-Roll and your interviews you are posed with an endless array of questions... Choices about tone, sequence, pace of cuts, soundtrack, what to include, what not to include... But first, sit down and ask  - not what the teacher wants but:

What is it you actually want to say? This will determined selection, tone, and even sequence. This is your North Star.

Now you have that you can start putting together the sequence. Then the sound. You may need to think about:

  • what Nat Sound can be used to set scene/set tone - use loads!

  • what VO is needed to carry your narrative - but use sparingly.

  • what music is needed to help set your tone - but use sparingly

Below I have included some videos you can dip into to help with this. This is not exhaustive and I would welcome any suggestions you find. (You may not realise this but I am old and different things speak to me.

Okay... sound you have your mic and that is it, right?

Nat Sound...

An old man's video really... A lovely look at the richness of NAt Sound.

A small video on Nat Sound...

These are amazing listening... for those of you who are gamers- just think how this sort of thing helps you immerse yourself in the game world.

The Death Star

...Or the coffee shop!

...Or even silence.

What about Voice Over...  This can be something you use to direct your audience, interrupt your narrative or even to engage with your work...  Over used it can be a crayon moustache on the Mona Lisa (Bladerunner!)

What About Music? Just pick your favourite song and go?

A great explanation of how music changes things!

Select your music on the effect wanted...not the song you like!

And this is an extended idea about how themes work. (Remember what we said about Star Wars at the beginning of the year?)

Big Jump here to some extended learning... Just wanted to have it here.
