In order to do well in MYP you need to understand what you are doing abut also how you are being marked. If you are writing an essay and the marks are only for organisation of ideas then it does not matter how good your ideas are or how good your language.... get my point? So Look at this generic rubric below. What is it asking you in each criteria? You can then follow this through to see if there is further support on the pages linked. Nb This might also be applicable in other lessons.

Introductions

What should go in an introduction?

  • Context

  • Summary

  • Justification

  • Key Terms

  • Thesis

Main Body Paragraphs

Learning image: Organising

The first line of each of these should be a topic sentence which clearly states what you shall discuss in this paragraph. This might include a linking word (above) and might also link the paragraph to the thesis statement.

All paragraphs should PEAL(There are various acronyms for this but they are all in essence the same)

P - Point (topic sentence)

E- Evidence

A- Analysis of evidence

L- Link

A good essay will not have these as clearly demarcated but the topic sentence will come first and the rest will be present in some form or order.

Conclusion

In conclusion... This will have a synthesis of your argument or ideas. This means that you do not merely repeat them but take the main ideas to make a single sentence / main point. This should of course reflect and support your initial thesis. After that you might add a hint of opinion, and then possibly the implications of your findings and a suggestion for what you might go on to consider.

Bibliography

After this comes the bibliography or rather the 'Words Cited'. Further details:
