ATL: Practise empathy
How does empathy play a part here? When we read we have to be open to empathising. If we do not care then we will not get the ideas at all. If we merely sympathise then we will appreciate the novel logically, but if we truly allow ourselves to be immersed in what we are reading, if we empathise with the characters then we can experience the novel.
Question: Does empathy always make us a better reader?
ATL: Read critically and for comprehension
So if we read empathetically we do not need to be critical right?
Wrong- having established what you feel with regards empathy - then we can step back and reflect on how that feeling has been created.
