Aim: To consider what types of questions we ask of a text
ATL: Read critically and for comprehension
As we read through this... consider how the questions we ask add both to our understanding of the plot but also to our appreciation of how the author creates meaning.
Asking Questions
Task: Write down three questions you may ask about the text.
Now, think about your questions... what are they really engaging with:
Comprehension - recall or understanding of words or events
What colour is the ball?
Inference/implication - the 'inworld' reason for events, objects...
What does John think about having a pink ball?
Authorial intent- the writer's skill (or indeed the readers' inference) beyond the fictional construct.
Why might the writer have given John a ball that is pink?
As you can see from the questions above they are all clearly different levels. Which would you think is the most developed?
Remember: CIA ask the questions.
